That’s exactly what we found in Revyze, a Paris-based Edtech company redefining how Gen Z approaches learning. Combining the engaging nature of social platforms with high-quality educational content, Revyze is well-positioned to disrupt the education sector — and that’s why we co-lead their latest €5.5 million funding round with our friends at Moonfire.
The Problem: Traditional education isn't keeping up
The modern education system is struggling to engage today’s students. While information is more accessible than ever, traditional teaching methods often fail to capture the attention of Gen Z, who are used to scrolling through TikTok, Instagram, and other fast-paced platforms – spending as much as 5 hours each day on these and other social media channels. For better or worse, this generation seeks immediate gratification, bite-sized content, and interactive engagement.
The current education system isn’t designed to meet the needs of today’s students, and they’re fed up with the one-size-fits-all approach that schools refuse to change. According to a recent Yale study, nearly 75% of students self-reported having negative feelings about school, with stress (79%) and boredom (69%) being 2 of the top feelings cited.
Students are hungry for more personalized and engaging learning experiences. They want to learn on their own terms, in a way that fits into their daily routines and aligns with their interests. However, there needs to be more platforms that provide such an experience, while also ensuring educational credibility.
The Solution: TikTok meets Duolingo, with a purpose
Revyze addresses this gap by blending the best of TikTok’s scrolling experience with the educational rigor of platforms like Duolingo. The app delivers educational content in vertical video format, allowing students to learn about everything from calculus to history while engaging with a feed that’s designed to be as engaging as their favorite social media apps.
What sets Revyze apart is its unique capsule-based learning system, where students can unlock educational content by either solving gamified quizzes or using in-app currency. This creates a highly engaging loop that keeps students motivated and ensures they remain within relevant learning tracks.
Moreover, Revyze ensures the credibility of its content by relying on vetted creators and AI-driven content moderation to maintain accuracy. By combining these elements, Revyze creates a trusted, interactive, and engaging learning environment for high school students.
Why Revyze stands out
- Massive Traction: Revyze has experienced explosive growth, reaching 500,000 monthly active users (MAU) in France within 18 months — representing 10% of French high school students. It’s also reached the #1 spot in the iOS App Store last June.
- Strong Engagement: Revyze’s unique learning experience has resulted in high retention rates, indicating a strong product-market fit. This engagement is key to its scalability.
- Massive Market Potential: With the potential to expand across Europe and the US, Revyze is aiming for 10% adoption among the 300 million Gen Z students across these markets. Even with conservative estimates, this could lead to a highly lucrative business model generating significant revenue through subscriptions and other monetization strategies.
The Team: Visionaries with a proven track record
Revyze’s founding team includes Guillaume Perrot (ex-Product at Alan), Florent Sciberras (former Territory Manager at Airbnb), and Anatole Blanc (former Auto1). We couldn’t ask for more skilled and solid company builders to partner with. It’s no wonder the team has managed to attract former executives from BeReal and Alan and continue to bring in top-tier talent with the experience needed to scale Revyze into a global leader in Edtech.
