Business Development Director (Silicon Valley)

In order to support Speedinvest’s portfolio companies’ development in the US market we are looking for a Business Development Director based in our San Francisco office. The job is an excellent way to gain broad exposure to a range of sectors, and to the requirements for scaling fast growing, venture backed companies.

Your Responsibilities

  • Lead the San Francisco Office
  • Supervise a team of 2-3 people
  • Coordinate hands-on work with startup founders
    • Supervise US growth support from Speedinvest team
    • Help to manage operational teams on the ground in the USA
    • Work hand in hand with the Sales, Business Development or Key account management teams of the different portfolio companies
    • Use network and sales competences to promote and secure orders from existing or prospective customers
    • Participate to sales pitches with potential clients and coach the sales teams
    • Prepare action plans for effective search of sales leads and prospects, including Sales Campaigns using State-of-the-Art Tools
    • Initiate and coordinate the development of action plans to penetrate new markets or broaden existing markets
    • Adhere to all company policies, procedures and business ethics codes
    • Reporting on Outcomes and BD/Sales support measures for portfolio companies

Requirements

We are looking for an active, creative manager. We want someone who can understand early-stage products and sell them. Start-up experience is a must. Technical skills and or MSc highly preferred. European languages (particularly German) are a plus but not a must.

In order to support Speedinvest’s development in the US market we are looking for a Business Developer Manager based in our San Francisco office. The job is an excellent way to gain broad exposure to a range of sectors, and to the requirements for scaling fast growing, venture backed companies. Think of it as McKinsey for startups.

Your Responsibilities

Hands-on work with startup founders

  • Support them to scale their companies
  • Help them identify and penetrate new markets, especially the US
  • Identify customers and partners, build and manage sales and growth campaigns with State-of-the-Art tools.
  • Create sales pitches, participate in customer meetings, build and maintain client relationships
  • Work with startup teams to identify learnings, adapt sales collateral and the sales process accordingly

For this reason, startup experience is highly valued. If you have had your own startup, or have been an early employee and helped scale a company, we definitely want to talk to you.

Requirements

We are looking for an active, creative expert.  We want someone who can design/build products and sell them. Technical skills and or BSc highly preferred.  European languages (particularly German) are a big plus.

  • Product management experience highly desirable.
  • Start-up experience in a key leadership role – founder, CEO, COO. Failure is fine.

About Our Graduate/Internship Program

The six- to twelve-month Graduate/Internship Program is a unique opportunity to gain first-hand insights into the startup and venture capital ecosystem and acquire knowledge in strategy and execution. You will work with the investment team and – depending on your academic background, interest and personal fit – either focus on FinTech & InsurTech or DeepTech & Industry or Marketplaces & SaaS startups or work with our pre-seed unit. Internally, you will be an integral part of our investment team, supporting Partners and Associates in all aspects of their work and thus learn the basics of the daily venture capital business. The program will give you the opportunity to work alongside experienced entrepreneurs on projects which will have a real impact on the business world. You will enjoy a great deal of responsibility and will have the possibility to contribute to a number of exciting projects.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Analyze and track companies and sectors relevant to our investment thesis.
  • Analyze potential target companies’ business models and KPIs and develop coherent financial models.
  • Perform due diligence on potential portfolio companies, including commercial, financial and operational analyses.
  • Assist Partners and Associates building investment cases for potential deals.
  • Participate in weekly investment meetings and regular workshops with entrepreneurs.
  • Support portfolio companies on specific projects.
  • Assist the team with administrative duties, including fund reporting, pipeline management, applicant feedback, travel schedules, preparation for major events, and other initiatives.

Requirements

  • Strong academic performance and extracurricular involvement. Completion of or in the final stage of completion of a university degree, preferably in finance, natural science or engineering.
  • Relevant undergraduate work experience, preferably at a startup, VC or financial institution.
  • Excellent analytical skills, commercial acumen and critical thinking ability.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal. Fluency in English. Basic knowledge of German is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Demonstrated research abilities.
  • Strong work ethic and a genuine interest in technology.
  • An entrepreneurial ‘can-do’ attitude. You take initiative!
  • A high level of self-organization and independence. You possess the ability to manage multiple requests, assess priorities and achieve solutions.
  • Coding skills are nice to have.

Compensation

Full-time position (40h/week) based in Vienna or potentially in Berlin.

Salary Vienna: 1150 EUR gross/month.

Salary Berlin: 1532 EUR gross/month.
